It has been a busy year for the card game. The year opened with Ascended Heroes, which became the largest set the Pokemon TCG has ever produced and featured sought-after cards for Pikachu, Gengar and Dragonite. Perfect Order, Pitch Black and the recently released 30th Celebration followed. Now The Pokemon Company is getting fans ready for the year's closing expansion.
Meet the Prerelease Promo Cards
The four promos feature Enamorus, Masquerain, Kommo-o and Magmortar. Players can find them in the expansion's Build and Battle boxes, and each card carries the Delta Reign logo in the corner of its artwork. Every box holds a pre-built 40-card deck and four Delta Reign booster packs, along with one randomly inserted promo from the four. Prerelease events start on October 24 at stores taking part in the Play! Pokemon program.
Each promo comes with its own playstyle. The Masquerain deck leans on the "Bug Out" attack and includes several Pokemon that share it, which can push the damage higher. Magmortar's Ability attaches Fire and Lightning energies to both itself and its usual partner, Electivire. Enamorus rewards players who gather all the "forces of nature," cutting attack costs when Enamorus, Thundurus, Landorus and Tornadus are all in play. Kommo-o looks like the most straightforward of the group, focusing on energy acceleration to cover the unusual energy costs of Dragon Pokemon attacks.
What Else Is in the Set
The promos are only part of the story. Mega Rayquaza ex is expected to be the biggest chase card for many collectors, and it is the first fully new card for that Mega Evolution since Ancient Origins in 2015. The set also adds more Mega Pokemon from Pokemon Legends: Z-A, including the first cards for Mega Golisopod, Mega Golurk and Mega Malamar. A new split Stadium card called Legendary Summit will debut too, and players must play both halves at the same time.
Looking Ahead to 2027
No sets have been officially announced for 2027 yet, but fans have had a peek at what is coming. A trailer at the Pokemon World Championships teased Z Mega Evolutions, first seen in the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The same video revealed a brand-new card type and confirmed that ex Star cards will arrive in a future set. Pokemon TCG fans have plenty to look forward to as 2026 winds down.
