The official Japanese Pokemon social media channel recently posted a short clip of the protagonist from Ruby and Sapphire chasing after a non-playable character and his Wingull companion. The footage was impressive for the high-def quality, with a much larger and sharper display than the original handheld versions. This timing lines up with past leaks that have indicated Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald could be heading to the Switch and Switch 2 at some point in October of 2026.
The clip also showed off the noticeably improved graphics and fans were quick to point out how smooth the gameplay looked. Many wondered if this could be the real original game running unmodified. Since the company doesn't usually advertise using an emulator, then it's far more likely that this is a genuine, remastered version of the game running on real hardware. The less pixelated art style and more colorful palette shown in the clip also help to support the idea that this is a genuine Gen 3 port made for the Switch and Switch 2.
