How Much Does It Cost and Where to Buy
The Pitch Black set is available in four formats at the Pokémon Center. These include Elite Trainer Boxes (11 packs), Booster Bundles (6 packs), individual Booster Packs (10 cards), and Booster Display Boxes (36 packs). This entire set is a presale because the set doesn't officially come out until July 17, 2026. The Pokémon Center has strict purchase limits per household, usually 2 Elite Trainer Boxes, 1 Booster Display Box, and a limited number of individual Booster Packs per order.
Inside the Pitch Black Set – What Are Cards
In all, Pitch Black contains over 115 cards, including over 20 Trainer cards and over 35 Pokémon and Trainer cards featuring special illustrations. The set features artwork from notable contributors like Mina Nakai, Shibuzoh, Naoya Kimura, and Hyogonosuke, and is a reflection of the Japanese release called Abyss Eye. Collector highlights include a crocheted Wailmer card by Asako Ito and a clay Mankey by Yuka Morii. Special art cards featuring Pokémon such as Armarougue, Goldeen, Primarina, Manetric, Slowbro, Dhelmise, Thievul, and Zarude. The Gold card is Mega Darkrai. The artwork is generally considered a cut above previous sets, Perfect Order and Chaos Rising, so competition for this release is likely to be fierce.
Why you should try the Pokémon Center's Elite Trainer Box
The Elite Trainer Box is a Pokémon Center exclusive and a great value for collectors and resellers. The Pokémon Center version has more packs than standard ETBs sold at other retailers, and different packaging, including two promo cards instead of one, and a special Pokémon Center stamp. These variants are not reprinted, so they tend to increase greatly in value. In the short term, Pokémon Center-branded boxes are often resold at 2-3x the price of regular ETB packages.
How to Use the Pokémon Center Website Effectively
The Pokémon Center website is known for being notoriously difficult to use during major sales due to extremely high traffic and aggressive bot detection. If you do get in the queue, be advised to move through the site slowly, with three to five seconds between clicks. Don't use Autofill at all – type all payment and address details manually. Buyers should start from the homepage instead of a direct product link, as targeted navigation might set off bot flags. You want to buy everything you want to buy in one go, because the site may not give you a second chance to try.
Understanding Common Pitfalls and Workarounds
There are two common errors that occur in Pokémon Center sales. Error 15 is the generic overload error. Cause: High traffic. Solution: Clearing cookies and restarting the router may help. Try again without constantly refreshing the page. The more serious error, called Access Denied, is Error 17. This means the site thinks you are a bot and has blocked you temporarily from buying anything. Some users have found a workaround by logging out, clearing their browser cache, and then trying again with a different payment method and email. But it doesn't always work. Sometimes you'll see stuff listed as in stock, but it's not. If that happens, the cart trick—going to the cart and then back to the product page, instead of adding directly—can also be a workaround.
Other ways to get pitch-black cards
If you can't get a ticket through the Pokémon Center presale, there are other options. Big retailers like Target also run their own presales, but they tend to carry less inventory and are more lenient with buying rules. Local card shops are also a good option, many of which host presale events where attendees get a Build and Battle box with 40 cards and three booster packs just for showing up, and three more packs for playing in matches. These events also allow access to exclusive stamped promo cards, and can even allow buyers to get new cards up to two weeks before their official release date. At many shops, pre-release event tickets are going for around $40, which can sometimes be less than the standard retail price of a pack.
