Halloween Game Brings Michael Myers Back in 2026

Seven years after Friday the 13th: The Game packed up its hockey mask and axe, developer IllFonic and publisher Gun Media are back with a new survival horror game – this time it's inspired by the iconic Halloween series. Titled simply Halloween, the next game was announced as an asymmetrical one-vs-everybody stealth horror game. Players can choose to play as the notorious killer on the approach to Halloween or as members of the police force hunting him, as they race against time to try and close the case before it's too late.

Civilians are restricted to hiding in the dark, warning townspeople or trying to get through to the authorities. Myers, meanwhile, can skulk after his victims, cut phone and power lines, and even keep the police occupied. Story-driven solo play, offline matches vs. bots, and fierce competition through online stats and leaderboards; every mode plays to the same compelling core gameplay strength, imposing a variety of interesting challenges.

Remaining Authentic to the Original Film
IllFonic's goal is to re-create the ominous vibe of the 1978 film. The game has several other maps in Hadenfield, mirroring the eerie visuals and creepy soundtrack based on the original movie. As civilians rush to warn NPC townspeople and police, the tension mounts as patrols are summoned more often, increasing the heat on Michael Myers.

Its gameplay might remind some of Friday the 13th, but its new mechanics make it something different. The challenge is unchanged: regular people must band together and learn to combat an unstoppable killer who won't stop at claiming their lives.

Development and Release
IllFonic co-founder and CEO Charles Brungardt said of the partnership with Compass International Pictures and Further Front, who have the rights to the original Halloween film. He went on to stress their reverence for ҫmichael Myers, stating that their aesthetic sensibilities have kept them firmly trudging in line with the film's bleak legacy.

While Friday the 13th: The game has been forced to stop development/games over legal disputes involving the film rights, Halloween is being made with the blessing of the rights holders. The game is planned for release on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in 2026.
