What Happened?
Reddit user Angelbabyzz wrote that the gunshot was fired late at night when a neighbour's gun went off. The bullet went through the gaming PC, broke the tempered glass side panel, and wrecked the motherboard and both RAM sticks. The case in question was a pink Apevia Genesis mid-tower case, a model that costs more than $100 on Newegg. The neighbor later explained that their dog had discharged the gun, and they rushed over to check on Angelbabyzz, who was asleep at the time.
Police Confirm PC Changed Direction of Bullet
Responding officers allegedly told Angelbabyzz that the PC had altered the bullet's trajectory and that, if the computer hadn't been where it was, Angelbabyzz likely would have been hit directly. Broken glass from the shattered side panel was everywhere in the bedroom, a three-day clean-up job. Besides the visible damage, the bullet impact also dislodged a heat shield from one of the RAM modules. Debris from both the gunshot and the broken glass impacted the graphics card, CPU fan, and several internal cables.
Legal & Financial Implications
The neighbour was charged with criminal negligence, and police seized their gun after the incident. Angelbabyzz said they have no plans to pursue any further charges, but the neighbor has been responsive and cooperative since the incident. The neighbour has said that if the insurance claim doesn't cover the whole cost of replacing the damaged PC parts, he will pay for the rest. And with the skyrocketing cost of RAM and graphics cards throughout 2026, the reimbursement bill could be pretty hefty.
Not the first time an object has stopped a bullet.
This is not the first time an ordinary item has saved someone from serious injury from a stray bullet. A bullet went through the wall of a closet and was stopped by an Incineroar deck box, saving the life of Pokémon Trading Card Game player LolaInSlacks88 in April 2025. The 9mm round punched through several cards inside the box and stopped. The damaged Incineroar card was later put in a magnetized protective case and put on display on LolaInSlacks88's refrigerator as a souvenir from the incident.
Warning of Unexpected Results
Both incidents show how common household objects, from gaming PCs to card collections, can unexpectedly help prevent serious harm. The financial cost of replacing damaged parts can be significant, especially with the increasing cost of hardware, but the result in either case serves as a reminder that sometimes, everyday objects can find themselves in the right place at just the right time.
