GameStop Addresses Shiny Legendary Pokémon Event Issue

GameStop has commented on the controversy regarding the Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon distribution event for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. The retailer explained that The Pokémon Company (TPCi) limited the number of codes given to each store, and GameStop said it would continue to help players get codes until the distribution ends on October 15.

Code Distribution and Store Limits
The Shiny Legendary event is currently the only way to obtain Shiny Koraidon in Pokémon Violet and Shiny Miraidon in Pokémon Scarlet, as the Pokémon are normally Shiny Locked. The event is taking place at retailers all over the world, including GameStop in the US and EB Games in Canada.

According to GameStop, stores received about 50 codes each for the initial wave of the event. The second wave, which began on October 4, gave another set of 50 codes to be distributed in stores. The first wave had special cards, while for the second wave, the code was printed on the customer's receipt. GameStop said these limits were set by TPCi and that stores outside the US did not have limits on codes. GameStop also stated that to get the codes fairly distributed, it will continue to give codes until October 15, and only one per customer.

Fan Reactions and Ongoing Issues
Mixed reactions came from GameStop's statement. Some Pokémon fans wanted to know how many codes were made available to stores, while others said they appreciated the transparency from GameStop. Some fans have reached out to The Pokémon Company, urging a response and suggesting using online Mystery Gift events as a way to eliminate possible scalping in the future.

The Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon event has been a controversial event for the US, as there have been codes selling out quickly and codes turning up on resale sites like eBay. Combined with a bug in the ongoing Paradox Tera Raid event, the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet game has faced criticism from these changes that the player community is not pleased about. It remains to be seen how TPCi responds to GameStop's statement and how they will respond to the ongoing player concerns.
