Kicks Inspired By Sonic and ShadowAccording to prominent Fortnite leaker Wenso, new files referenced two pairs of Fortnite Kicks designed after Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow the Hedgehog. The cosmetics reference the soon-to-be-released Sega x Puma sneaker collection.
While they have not gotten shop assets in the game yet, the textures are almost identical to the real-life sneakers.
The Puma collection is set to release on October 30th, which could also be the timing of the Fortnite release. This leak suggests the crossover will only function as footwear cosmetics.
Fans hoping to see full Sonic or Shadow skins may be disappointed, as there do not appear to be any character models in the found files. The Puma collection includes shoes based on Tails as well, but no textures for those shoes were found in the Fortnite update.
Expanding Crossover Universe
Fortnite is becoming a worldwide hub for collaboration, compiling franchises from gaming, to anime, to film, and music.
This year alone has seen the number of official and leaked collaborations balloon. For example, Kai Cenat will be in Fortnite on September 12th, and there have been talks on IShowSpeed potentially being in the game too.
Additionally, leaks have pointed to some sort of crossover with indie co-op title REPO, pop culture cult favorite The Binding of Isaac, and the iconic horror franchise Silent Hill.
So busy, that the Fortnite x Power Rangers event is currently live, that sees players able to use cosmetics themed after the legendary TV series.
What Are the Next Expectations
The Sonic leak fits in perfectly with Fortnite's long-standing tendency to tie digital cosmetics to real-world product launches. If Puma does release sneakers on October 30th as planned, then fans might see a Fortnite release date around the same time for Sonic-themed Kicks.
Whether this will be a collaborative crossover into character skins for Sonic, Shahdow, or other Sega characters remains to be seen, but just the discovery has already set the community on fire.
With Fortnite continuing to push forward at a rapid pace with new collaborations, the Sonic crossover, whether just footwear or expanded to character skins, shows that vast connections in mainstream pop culture between properties are not slowing down for the battle royale.
