Known for its technically polished work on the Forza Horizon series, Playground Games is taking on a very different kind of challenge with Fable as an open-world RPG. At the heart of the game is its Living Population system, which brings over 1,000 handcrafted NPCs to life, each with their own personality and daily routine. Players can build friendships, cause trouble, hire NPCs for work, or even marry them. Every building in the world can be entered, and players are able to purchase homes and businesses, delivering the kind of life-sim in depth longtime fans of the franchise have come to expect. Given how much is happening behind the scenes, the surprisingly accessible minimum requirements could be welcome news for players still running older hardware.
Specs Range From Entry-Level to High-End Setups
At its lowest graphical preset, Fable is designed to run at 1080p and 30 FPS, requiring either a Ryzen 5 2600 or Core i7-6850K processor paired with an RTX 2060, RTX 5050, RX 6600, or Intel Arc A580 graphics card, along with 12GB of system RAM and 6GB of VRAM. Stepping up to medium settings allows players to target either 1440p at 30 FPS or 1200p at 60 FPS, using GPUs like the RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 5060, RX 6700 XT, or RX 9060 XT.
Requirements increase noticeably beyond that point. Reaching 1440p at 60 FPS calls for an RTX 5070 or RTX 3080 Ti, while running the game at 4K and 60 FPS on Ultra settings requires either an RTX 5080 or RTX 4080. Interestingly, system RAM requirements cap out at just 16GB even at the highest settings, though VRAM requirements climb to 16GB at that tier. Playground Games hasn't confirmed whether these benchmarks assume the use of upscaling technology, though the PC version does support both Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR.
Storage Demands Stand Out Despite Modest Hardware Needs
While the GPU requirements appear fairly forgiving, storage is where Fable becomes noticeably more demanding. The game requires an SSD and roughly 135GB of free space, placing it on the larger end of modern game installations, though that size isn't particularly unusual among today's major AAA releases. Considering the sheer number of enterable interiors, densely populated areas, and detailed environments packed into Fable's expansive world, the storage requirement offers another hint at just how much content Playground Games has built into the game.
Reaction to the minimum specifications has generally been more favorable than reaction to the higher-end requirements. An RTX 2060 is considered fairly old hardware heading into a major 2027 release, and many PC players see its inclusion as a promising sign that Playground is aiming to make the game accessible across a wide range of systems. That said, some fans have expressed disappointment over the continued reliance on 30 FPS targets, especially at the recommended tier, since many PC gamers now consider 60 FPS the expected standard. There's also some uncertainty about whether the listed resolutions represent native rendering, making it difficult to fully gauge how demanding Fable's open world will actually be until more detailed benchmarks are released.
That uncertainty is part of what makes the RTX 2060 and Ryzen 5 2600 minimum requirements more intriguing than the far more demanding RTX 5080 recommendation. It's not particularly surprising for a modern open-world RPG to require powerful hardware for 4K Ultra performance, but successfully running Fable's dense NPC population, interactive properties, businesses, relationship systems, and background simulations on an eight-year-old mainstream GPU and CPU would be a genuinely impressive technical achievement. Actual performance will still depend heavily on optimization and individual settings choices, but based on these early specifications, Fable may end up being far more scalable than its ambitious scope suggests. For many PC players, that kind of accessibility could ultimately matter more than how the game performs at the highest possible settings.
