Even with the disappointment of an official GoldenEye 007 game not happening in 2021, this game seems like the indie title players have been awaiting!Old School Vibe with New School Benefits
In short, Replicant D6's Agent 64: Spies Never Die recreates the NESV-style shooters while incorporating aspects from modern games. As of now, the game will feature a campaign lasting ~14 missions with a separate online arena mode, which will allow for a maximum of 8 players in 4v4 multiplayer.
Thankfully, a playtest for the arena mode will be conducted soon, and requests to access this playtest are already live on Steam. There is also a goal to include local split-screen competitive play like GoldenEye 007 had.
The developer indicated that the exact launch date is still unconfirmed; still, the developer wants to launch the game in 2025.
People who love co-op shooters will have options for couch co-op, as well as online co-op for the campaign, allowing a player to work on a mission together with friends! There will also be a challenge mode where players will face AI-squads with specialized scenarios!
More Modes and Community Integration
To keep the tunes fresh, Agent 64 will warrant mod support in all modes. There will also be a Paradox Mode, which will allow players to follow the crazy path of built-in cheats and odd presets!
As a bonus, players who crave even more retro FPS-style adventure should check out the enhanced Steam port of Turok (releasing again in 2023), and travel on a low-poly adventure throughout dinosaur-filled battlefields until Agent 64: Spies Never Die is released!
