Switch 2 Fixes 10 More Backward-Compatible Games

On December 8, 2020, Nintendo announced that they would be adding 10 more Switch games that were originally released before Nintendo's launch of Switch 2. The first edition of Switch 2's backward compatibility was also included in a 2020 patch to address many different compatibility issues players had between older Switch titles and their new consoles.

Backward compatibility is one of the biggest selling points of Switch 2 and allows users to access a larger selection of Switch content via newer technology. One of the major disappointments users had with the original Switch was it was not able to support their Wii U consoles, due in large part to its use of cartridge-type media.

However, this expansion of backward compatibility will expose gamers to many more of Nintendo's library of AAA-quality gaming experience. However, upon release, several titles caused technical issues with backward compatibility.

Nintendo has advanced its manufacturing capabilities to a level where users of Switch 2 can benefit from current technology. These 10 titles include Resident Evil 4, Miitopia, Blade of Darkness, Game Dev Story, Little Nightmares: Complete Edition, Moji Yuugi, Solid Void - Nature Puzzles, Sports Party, Streets of Rage 4, and Venture Towns.

While the specific improvements to these titles have not yet been disclosed by Nintendo, users of Switch 2 can expect to see enhancements in performance and stability with these titles while playing on Switch 2.

Additional Fixes Are Being Added to Switch 2 Compatibility
There are several older Switch titles that still require further improvements for Switch 2, even after the addition of numerous patches and fixes to improve compatibility. For example, A Hat in Time has been previously identified as having issues with game progression.

Nonetheless, Nintendo continues to expand its support of Switch 2 compatibility with the constant release of new titles that support backward compatibility. An earlier system patch was released in October, which improved the performance of multiple older Switch titles on Switch 2, including Warframe.

The compatibility support has made it possible for users of Switch 2 to revisit previously played titles with improved performance, as there is a more fluid frame rate during gameplay when playing such titles as Zelda: Link's Awakening, and Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

Additionally, Nintendo recently released higher-resolution Switch 2 editions of both popular first-party titles, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, both of which run at a higher resolution and provide a frame rate of 60 frames per second.

As Nintendo continues its development of additional games and other content for Switch 2, it is anticipated that Nintendo will continue its growth and popularity over the next several years. Along with concerns over the pricing of Nintendo Switch 2 and the limited number of officially announced first-party titles for release in 2026, Nintendo is expected to release many more titles throughout the remainder of the year before more official announcements are made regarding Switch 2's future.
