The soon-to-be-released Black Flag remake announcement was made by Ubisoft on April 23rd, with many fans expressing joy about the news that had been rumored in the early months.
The speculation that a second Assassin's Creed remake exists gained traction when Tom Henderson, the head of the gaming news site Insider Gaming and one of the longest-standing industry insiders, mentioned it during a podcast episode on April 24 with information from credible sources in the gaming world.
Two days later, the renowned French YouTube gaming content creator and frequent leaker of Assassin's Creed-related content backed Tampa's claims but declined to share the title of the remade game, as he was not privy to that information himself.
The Original Game's Need For A Remake
If measuring all titles within the main Assassin's Creed series, Assassin's Creed (released by Ubisoft Montreal in November 2007) would be the most outdated—all gameplay elements such as mission structures, combat, and even controls are all quite clunky when compared with current-generation video games.
While the parkour motion system is not so limiting within the parent series, the rest of Assassin's Creed shows an incredibly outdated visual design and gameplay experience compared to every other entry in the franchise.
Assassin's Creed remains unique in that it is the only mainline entry not available for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S. In comparison, Black Flag Resynced has several elements of gameplay found within its original release—naval combat, exploration, and cinematics—that allow for stronger modernization than can be found in an Assassin's Creed remake; therefore, an Assassin's Creed remake would grant Ubisoft the opportunity to rebuild all of these gameplay elements from the beginning while still leaving in place the story that began one of gaming's largest franchises to introduce the series to a new audience.
