Nintendo to Air Indie World Showcase This Week

Nintendo has announced an additional Direct-style presentation following the February 5 Partner Showcase (which featured third-party games coming to Switch and other Nintendo platforms). The company will hold an Indie World Showcase on Tuesday, March 3, which will provide an overview of independent titles expected to launch on Switch and Switch 2 through 2026 and beyond. Since no major first-party announcements will be featured during this event, expect to hear more about some of Nintendo's most popular franchises at a later date.

The upcoming showcase follows the February 5 edition, which included a number of third-party titles being announced and detailed for release on Switch and other Nintendo platforms; many of the same titles featured in that edition were also re-shown for a second time during this new showcase (e.g., Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Digimon Story: Time Stranger, and Pragmata). This will mark the first Indie World Showcase since the last one on August 25, 2025, which showcased games like Mina the Hollower, Glaciered, and UFO 50.

The March 3 Indie World Showcase will be streamed via Nintendo's official social media channels (YouTube & Twitch) as well as the Nintendo Today app starting at 9 AM EST/6 AM PST and running approximately 15 minutes in length, and will highlight the independent games expected to be released on Switch & Switch 2 in the near future.Yet, Nintendo did say that they would not be showing off their significant first-party franchises like Mario and Zelda, so anything fans may have been hoping for from Nintendo's internal teams won't be happening in this event.

A particularly interesting point about this broadcast is the timing; it stems directly from the emergence of Pokemon Pokopia — a new title in the franchise that has received rave reviews since its March 5 launch, and it seems to continue generating lots of buzz and excitement among gamers.

Speculation as to what will come out of this showcase has already begun. One of the latest rumors is that additional information regarding Hollow Knight: Silksong (in particular the new Sea of Sorrow DLC slated for release in 2026 will be provided. Initially announced by developer Team Cherry, early screenshots of Sea of Sorrow reveal a set of underwater locations, quite unlike the ones found when playing the base game, with numerous new enemies and exploration opportunities.

Another highly-anticipated potential candidate for this broadcast is updates regarding Mina the Hollower. The game's release was pushed back; however, based on an announcement made by developer Yacht Club Games during their recent State of Play release, they currently are targeting Spring 2026 for release. Since Spring follows approximately three weeks following the March 3 showcase, it is possible that we may finally receive an actual release date for the game.

Several recent indie game announcements related to Nintendo systems also have to be factored into the overall independent gaming experience; for example, on February 25, the highly-rated roguelike card-based game Balatro surprise-released its Switch 2 version, providing free upgrades to previous version owners of the same game. Additionally; Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone (creator of Stardew Valley) announced the ability for Sandy and Clint to function as marriage candidates in the upcoming Version 1.7 update; however, no release date has been disclosed.

While the March 3 broadcast may not have blockbuster announcements concerning Nintendo's major franchises, this presentation continues to show that Nintendo is very supportive of independent developers. In the past, indie developers (via the Indie World Showcases) have introduced, and/or surprise-released, high-quality titles and/or previously-unknown franchise games that had never been fully realized before now; giving many independent projects an international platform beyond their country or studio.

With only a scheduled 15 minutes of programming, the March 3 broadcast will occur rapidly, providing viewers a deep concentration of upcoming indie Switch/Switch 2 gaming. Given the incredible diversity and creativity of all of the independent game developers, the vast majority of viewers may be surprised by at least a few products that are being shown. For now, fans should simply tune into NBC, and see what surprises Nintendo and its working partners have created!
