The beta period represents a significant opportunity for Infinity Ward to gather feedback and build momentum before the game's full release on October 23. Modern Warfare 4 has already generated considerable interest through announcements like the new Kill Block mode and various changes to the multiplayer formula, and the beta will allow the community to experience those changes firsthand rather than simply read about them.
The Two Beta Weekends Explained
The first weekend is an early access beta running from August 21 to August 25, available exclusively on Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Access during this period is limited to players who have pre-ordered the game, making it a reward for those who committed to the title early. The second weekend is a fully open beta, running from August 28 through September 1 and requiring no pre-order to participate. This second event expands platform availability to include Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the three platforms from the first weekend, meaning Switch 2 owners will be able to try the game for the first time during the open period. Both weekends are expected to include the same core content, giving all players an equal opportunity to experience what is on offer regardless of which weekend they participate in.
What the Beta Will Include
Infinity Ward has outlined what players can expect when they log in. The beta will feature a selection of multiplayer maps and game modes, including the brand-new Kill Block mode, which generates a different map layout for every match using over 500 possible configurations. Search and Destroy is also confirmed as part of the beta lineup, alongside the Training Mobility Course. Players will have access to 19 different weapons and a selection of new Operators, giving a reasonable cross-section of the customisation and loadout options planned for the full game. For those curious about Kill Block in particular, the beta will be the first chance for the broader public to experience the mode after an earlier hands-on preview at Fanatics Fest NYC in July.
