The franchise has been generating buzz recently as fans anticipate the release of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, the follow-up to 2023's first volume. This next installment will include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, along with Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, a title that originally launched back in 2000.
Konami Partners With CatCon for a Quirky New Lineup
Konami has teamed up with CatCon to release a lineup of cat-friendly products inspired by the Metal Gear Solid universe. The collection includes plush toys, cat collars, and cardboard scratching boxes designed with the franchise's signature style. One standout item is a scratcher modeled after the pink Love Box from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, alongside a plush toy shaped like the game's iconic alert exclamation point and a two-level cat tree inspired by an in-game cylindrical drum. These items will be available for purchase at Konami's booth during CatCon, taking place at the Pasadena Convention Center on October 10 and 11. Adding to the event's appeal, Konami is also collaborating with One Eared Uno, a well-known cat influencer, who is scheduled to make an appearance.
For fans who can't attend the convention in person, there's still a way to get in on the collection. The Metal Gear Solid-themed cat scratchers will also be sold online through OKS GEAR during the same two-day window. Given how quickly limited-run gaming merchandise tends to sell out, interested buyers are encouraged to check as early as possible on October 10, since resale prices for sold-out items in situations like this often climb quickly once official stock runs dry. This entire cat-themed rollout also ties into Konami's broader promotional push ahead of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 2, which is set to release on August 27.
Fans Excited, but Some Remain Cautious
Reaction from both cat owners and longtime Metal Gear fans has been largely positive so far. Considering how much cats naturally gravitate toward cardboard boxes and scratchers, the collection seems likely to be a hit with pets and their owners alike. And while the games included in Master Collection Vol. 2 aren't new releases, many fans have expressed genuine excitement about revisiting these classic titles on modern hardware.
That said, some fans are approaching the upcoming release with a bit of caution. Volume 1 delivered several beloved Metal Gear titles, but it also launched with noticeable issues, including laggy cutscenes, typos, poorly timed subtitles, and a lack of proper display settings on PC. While none of these problems were severe enough to ruin the experience, they did leave some players disappointed at the time. In response, developers have acknowledged that Volume 1 could have launched in better shape and say they're actively working to avoid similar issues with Master Collection Vol. 2.
