Downpour first hit shelves back in 2012, a year that turned out to be a busy stretch for the franchise. That same year also saw Silent Hill: Book of Memories and the Silent Hill HD Collection arrive, though the three titles landed with mixed results. After that stretch, aside from the buzz around PT, the series went quiet for more than a decade until the Silent Hill 2 remake finally revived it in 2024.
What's Being Restored
According to details shared about the project, the finished PC release will include cutscenes, lines of dialogue, and side quests that were cut before Downpour ever shipped. The centerpiece of the restoration, though, is a boss encounter against a character known as the Monocle Man. Sharp-eyed fans may remember catching a short glimpse of this fight in an early promotional trailer, only to find it missing entirely once the game actually launched. Seeing it playable at last is likely to be a big draw for anyone who followed the game closely back in the day.
There is no PC release date locked in just yet, though the team behind the project is aiming for a window sometime around September or October of 2026. Given that Downpour is already more than fourteen years old, most fans seem willing to wait a little longer for the payoff. The game originally launched exclusively on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which left out plenty of players who never owned either console, unlike other entries in the series that eventually made their way to PC and even some Nintendo hardware.
A One-Time Opportunity
It is worth noting that this is probably the only shot Downpour will get at a wider re-release, official or not, for quite some time. A remake of the very first Silent Hill game is currently in the works, but Downpour itself received a lukewarm reception when it first came out, and Konami has been selective about which older titles it chooses to remaster or reissue. Adding to that, the studio that made Downpour, Vatra Games, closed its doors not long after the game shipped.
Meanwhile, the franchise shows no sign of slowing down. Silent Hill: Townfall, a brand new entry built as part of the series' push toward more frequent releases, is set to arrive around the same time as the Downpour PC port, with a launch date of September 24. Much like Downpour, Townfall comes from a developer outside Japan, this time Scottish studio Screen Burn Interactive. Whether it can match the reception of recent hits like Silent Hill f and the Silent Hill 2 remake remains to be seen, but between new titles and restored classics, horror fans clearly have plenty to look forward to.
