Deep Dish Dungeon Is a Co-Op Dungeon Crawler Built Around Cooking

Steam's catalog has a new genre hybrid in Deep Dish Dungeon, which mixes survival and metroidvania elements with a heavy focus on cooking and optional co-op. It isn't a PC exclusive, but the Steam version has a generous launch discount that runs through late October 2026.

Who Made It and What It Costs
The game comes from Behold Studios, an award-winning indie developer founded in Brazil in 2009 and based in Canada since 2019. The studio is best known for the 2012 retro RPG Knights of Pen and Paper and the 2015 strategy RPG Chroma Squad, both of which launched to strong reviews and picked up industry accolades. Deep Dish Dungeon is Behold's sixth project. Like several of its earlier games, it pairs familiar genre ideas with an unusual progression structure, this time built around preparing for repeated expeditions into one large dungeon.

Deep Dish Dungeon launched on October 13 at a list price of $14.99, and Steam is selling it for $12.74 through October 27. Launch discounts are common for indie games, but most top out at 10%, while this one is a 15% cut. It also carries the Steam Deck Verified badge, which only about one in four titles on the platform has.

Food Is Progress
Cooking is tied directly to progression. Players forage for ingredients and other resources on expeditions, then return to camp to craft tools and cook meals, with different recipes giving different stat effects. The developer sums it up in three words: "Food is progress." Eating and preparation help players push deeper into the dungeon instead of working as a separate cooking minigame, an approach quite similar to how food works in Valheim.

Unlike many modern dungeon crawlers, this is neither a roguelike nor a roguelite. Its single, titular dungeon is entirely handcrafted, with carefully placed puzzles, hidden areas and routes that open up as players gain new tools. Behold also left out a map and compass on purpose, so players have to learn the place through landmarks, shortcuts and repeat visits. The party keeps circling back through familiar areas after unlocking new ways forward, which gives exploration a real metroidvania feel.

Co-Op With Crossplay
The whole game can be played solo or online with up to two friends, for a maximum party of three. Behold says the cap keeps enough room for exploration and puzzle-solving without crowding the dungeon. Crossplay works across all current platforms: PC, Mac and Xbox Series X/S. The game has also been available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers from day one.
