A Climb That Punishes Mistakes
Developer Nozech describes the game as "a brutally challenging platformer where you explore a treacherous mountain to uncover what lies at the top." Like other nerve-racking climbing games, it comes with a catch: one fall can erase a lot of progress and send players far back.
Players control a bouncy cube whose main moves are jumping, sliding and smashing. Success mostly depends on timing jumps, judging distance and picking the right landing spot. The cube's bounciness helps clear obstacles, but it can also backfire and fling the character the wrong way. An ill-timed jump or rough landing can cost players their progress. The developer warns that "the higher you go, the harder you will fall."
Bounce Quest isn't an arcade game about chasing a high score. The developer says a secret waits at the top of the mountain. It is a linear 2D platformer with six unique areas to explore, plus a dozen skins to unlock for the protagonist.
Free Since October 13
The developer hasn't said why the $4.99 price tag was dropped, but SteamDB data confirms the change took effect on October 13. The game has few user reviews, though the handful it has received are very positive, and some players confirm it is a tough one. One user wrote, "I can't say I enjoyed this one, and my desk had a hard time, but I definitely recommend checking it out."
More Free Games to Try
Bounce Quest isn't the only 2D platformer to go free recently. Jump Adventures, which has similar gameplay and visuals, has also dropped its price on Steam. Together the two offer hours of free content, especially for fans of cozy-looking games that keep pushing players to rage-quit. Those who prefer something more arcade-style can try Cartomancy Anthology, another paid game that recently became free. It is a collection of more than 20 small games, most of them relaxed.
