Saros Releases New May 2026 Patch Fixing Key Bugs and Glitches

Housemarque has released patch 01.004.003 for Saros, the studio's critically acclaimed PlayStation 5 exclusive, fixing a number of bugs and progression-blocking glitches that have been plaguing players since the game arrived on April 30, 2026. The new update, released on May 19, is the fourth patch the game has received since launch, with each successive patch focusing on further stabilizing the experience, optimizing performance, and introducing quality of life improvements based on player feedback.

While not the most expansive update the game has received, the patch addresses a few issues that had been causing a lot of frustration in the community.

Progression-blocking bugs fixed
One of the biggest fixes in the 01.004.003 patch is a series of fixes to issues that were blocking players from progressing in the game. Players getting stuck outside the Solar Cage in the Atrium of the Cathedral is a thing of the past, thanks to a bug fix, and a different bug in the Ancient Depths that blocked the Vault gate from opening properly has been fixed.

Other level design fixes include a gate to the Blighted Marsh that was incorrectly still closed and a bridge to the Desecrated Fortress that was rising too early, letting players skip the Blighted Marsh section entirely. We have also fixed an autosave spawn location glitch that was triggered when standing on certain stairs in the Passage, as well as a rare issue where players could be killed while using the Eclipse Threads ability in Yellow Shore.

Weapon and Gameplay Fixes
On the gameplay/balance front, the update fixes a few issues with weapons and core mechanics. Fixed the Gun Control weapon trait not working correctly on the Onslaught rifle. Also fixed a problem with the Growth Incapacitor not working correctly after restarting the game. There was also a bug that was causing players to die unexpectedly during the Second Chance cinematic sequence when using certain artifacts and weapon traits.

That one has also been resolved, which should remove one of the more jarring and disruptive issues that have been reported across the community. A few minor audio bug fixes and other improvements finish off the patch, in line with Housemarque's continued focus on perfecting the game's cinematic audio design.

A Powerful Launch with Ongoing Development
Saros has been hailed as one of the best PS5 exclusives when it comes to console optimization, though the game hasn't been without its technical issues since launch. Dozens of players had reported problems on the game's online community forum, including in-game items that refused to work as intended and certain mechanics preventing mission progress. Housemarque has been patching consistently and aggressively, whittling down the list of outstanding issues with each new update.

The studio's biggest post-launch patch to date arrived on May 5, just days after the game's launch, and brought new accessibility options, color categories, preview images, and depth of field improvements, as well as tweaks to peak HDR output that enable players to hit the calibrated maximum luminance level on their displays.

The community wants Photo Mode and Co-Op.
In addition to bug fixes and technical enhancements, the Saros community has been vocal about two features they would like to see added to the game in future updates. The most requested feature is a dedicated photo mode, with many players noting that the game's richly detailed sci-fi world and striking visual design are just as photo-worthy as those of Returnal, the spiritual predecessor to Saros developed by the same studio.

There has also been frequent mention of a co-op mode, but that would be a far more complicated task, especially if it were not part of the original design plans for the game. Housemarque has not said whether either addition will be added in future updates.

Great Response on PlayStation Store
Saros has had its share of technical issues since launch, but it has been met with rave reviews from players on the PlayStation Store. The game has received close to 7,000 reviews, about 85 percent of which are five-star ratings: a very strong reception that points to the quality of the underlying experience Housemarque has delivered. The community has also been actively promoting the game to other PlayStation 5 owners, a grassroots marketing effort that could help boost sales and potentially speed up the developer's ability to invest in future patches and content updates.

The game's visual and audio presentation is constantly being polished, and with continued dedication from Housemarque to fix critical issues, Saros will continue to improve in a meaningful way in the weeks and months ahead.
