Resident Evil 5 Remake Hint Surfaces After ESRB Listing

Recently, an ESRB database leak has led to speculation that Capcom will be making an official announcement shortly regarding the release of a remastered version of Resident Evil 5. After successfully releasing numerous remastered Resident Evil titles for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, fans can now have a bit more belief behind their speculation that Resident Evil 5 is coming soon.

Resident Evil 5 Remake Hint Surfaces After ESRB Listing
By Jacob Miller   |   Feb 11, 2026
On February 10th, a new listing for Resident Evil 5 was put onto the Entertainment Software Ratings Board database for the Xbox Series X/S. While Resident Evil 5 originally released on PS3 and Xbox 360, players have been able to play the game on next-gen consoles through backward compatibility, but there has never been a native next-gen version of the game. The news of this new listing caught a lot of players by surprise, and it has caused many to speculate as to why Capcom is listed as having scheduled a release date.

Most of the information about the game should be about a Mature rating from ESRB; however, the new listing mentions that the game will have in-game purchases, and while all downloadable content from the original game was bundled into Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition, it stands to imply that this might be more than a simple remastered re-release of the game. Recent remakes of Resident Evil have utilized microtransactions. With this in mind, it may add further justification to the speculation about this new ESRB listing being for a fully remastered version of Resident Evil 5 insteadHints All Indicate a Reveal is Coming Soon
Once again we have earlier speculation on Resident Evil Code: Veronica being the next title to get a remake, but with recent sighted evidence it appears that Resident Evil 5 has gained some preference in the development schedule. Not that long ago, Eva La Dare (Sheva Alomar's voice and motion capture actor) tweeted about having something exciting to share for March which she couldn't divulge at the moment. Eva used several hashtags associated with Resident Evil, both for RE5 and the 30th anniversary of the franchise.

Fresh from the shadows of the last game two years ago, it's interesting to see her comments relative to the timing. Traditionally, every remake of a Resident Evil title has used a new voice cast in order to create a new experience; however, if Eva La Dare returns, it will be a deviation from this pattern. Again, this isn't confirmation; however, with the continued rising interest from both the ESRB report and Eva's comments, anticipation is mounting in the community.

What a Remake Could Mean to Players
At this moment, only an ESRB rating for an XBox Series X/S has been posted; however, if Resident Evil 5 is remade, it is highly likely they would launch it on PlayStation and PC at the same time. With the PlayStation State of Play event scheduled for February 12, a lot of people believe we will see some sort of announcement there. A lot of players are exercising some caution and taking the news within this leak with a heavy grain of salt, as they will wait for some formalized announcement.

Resident Evil 5 has received mixed reviews since it was released. Co-op gameplay was a positive aspect of the game, but there has always been complaints on the poor AI of the secondary character when playing. The setting of the game (Africa) and design and look of many of the enemies were also hotly debated topics; if a remake is made, this will give Capcom the opportunity to fix issues with the gameplay system and update the overall experience. With how significant Resident Evil 5 is to the franchise, it is highly unlikely that Capcom would release the remade version without a major marketing push to support it.

Whether Resident Evil Code: Veronica or Resident Evil 5 comes out first appears to be mostly dependent on timing of development; it seems that both titles are actively being worked on. Through the many generations of remakes, the Resident Evil franchise remains refreshed between major releases, allowing fans who have been around for many years to experience classic games in a modernized fashion. As Resident Evil Requiem launches in February of 2026, there are plans for a new Resident Evil movie in late 2026, plus the Resident Evil Survival Unit mobile game still being developed and published; Capcom continues to create momentum in the creation of its survival horror brands.
