PS Plus Premium Faces Backlash Over Tekken Addition

With the start of 2026, there are mixed opinions about the PS Plus subscription across the three tiers; PS Plus Essential and PS Plus Extra provide new games each month, while PS Plus Premium is regularly criticized for the number of new games added. There has been considerable negative feedback from subscribers for the upcoming PS Plus Premium game, Tekken: Dark Resurrection, with many voicing their concerns before the game is even released.

PS Plus Premium Faces Backlash Over Tekken Addition

During a recent State of Play announcement, several titles were confirmed to be coming to PS Plus in the next few months. Big Walk, a future PS Plus Essential title, is due to be released sometime later in the year. In addition, Disney/Pixar's Wall-E was added to PS Plus Premium in February and has been confirmed to also be followed by Tekken: Dark Resurrection in March and Time Crisis in May.

There are also quite a few new titles that will be added to the PS Plus Extra tier in February 2026. Included in those are Echoes of the End, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Monster Hunter Stories (1+2), Neva, Rugby 25, Season: A Letter to the Future, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, and Venba. Again, there are concerns with the amount of games compared to the PS Plus Extra tier in relation to the amount of games available to PS Plus Premium subscribers.

The main issue appears to be with Tekken: Dark Resurrection. Several fighting gamers were very quick to point out that the version of Tekken: Dark Resurrection that would be added to PS Plus Premium was the PSP version and not the PS2 version, which many believe is better than the PSP version. Compared with the PS2 version, the PSP version has fewer features, is shorter in total time and length, and doesn't have the original Tekken 5 stages to choose from or a versus mode. Graphically, the PSP version will not offer the same graphics as the PS2 version.

The lack of any online functionality for Classic games on PS Plus could also be an issue for PS Plus Premium subscribers. Many fighting gamers have made references to other titles in the franchise when making comments. One example is "Please don't repeat T6 again with no multiplayer, that's just stupid". As stated by many fighting gamers, multiplayer is required in order to play fighting games. Currently, Classic games on PS Plus have no online capabilities. Subscribers believe a PS2 version of Tekken: Dark Resurrection would offer superior overall playability associated with a PS Plus Premium subscription.

Despite all the negative feedback from subscribers, the PS Plus rollout schedule is consistent with previous months. Although the announcements were delayed due to the development of PS Plus Extra's games, the PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium games were added to the respective streaming platforms on February 17, 2026, as previously announced.

The new PS Plus free games for March will have their announcement made on February 25, unless an unforeseen emergency arises, where a new timeline might be required at the start of March. The new PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium games for March are not expected to be released until later in March, but according to the announcements made earlier, there will be no PS Plus Premium games released in April.

Currently, Tekken: Dark Resurrection is the only confirmed title for PS Plus Premium, and currently there is very little excitement surrounding it; however, fans hope that there will be additional announcements made for the month of March that will add value to the PS Plus Extra tier, especially since there is currently a lack of new titles for the PS Plus Premium tier. For Premium subscribers, there is no choice but to wait and see if any additional titles will be added to their Premium subscription offerings.
