A Mobile Hit Comes to PC
CPM 2 has long been one of the most popular open-world car simulation games on mobile. On the Google Play Store, it has over ten million downloads and an average score of 4 out of 5 from more than 200,000 reviews. It also does well on the App Store, where it holds an average of 4.4 out of 5. Building on that success, developer OGames has now brought the game to PC.
The Steam launch has gone better than many expect from a mobile port. According to SteamDB data at the time of writing, CPM 2 peaked at over 14,000 concurrent players shortly after release. That number might not sound shocking for a multiplayer open-world sim, but mobile games often struggle to win over a new audience on PC. CPM 2 has clearly been an exception.
What Players Can Do
Players start in an open-world map where they can join races and other driving activities. They can also buy and trade car liveries with other players. One of the most popular features is car customization, which lets players modify a car's engine and exterior to boost both performance and looks. They can also host car meets in-game or create their own activities and competitions.
As a driving sim, the game offers a realistic feel, with both automatic and manual transmission options. Steering wheels are supported too, although some players say the feature needs a patch to smooth out its rough edges. There are also in-depth recording tools for capturing professional-quality screenshots and videos, and special emotes let player characters pose for that kind of content.
Still in Early Access
Despite the strong reception, new players should remember that CPM 2 is still in early access. OGames plans to keep it there for about one to two years to make sure PC performance is stable. Since the game is free to play, though, there is little risk for fans of the genre who want to give it a try.
