Xbox Game Pass Loses Top RPGs at End of May

Microsoft is about to take some of the best RPGs out of Xbox Game Pass, and you'll want to get them now. Five titles are confirmed to be leaving the service on May 31, 2026, with the departures hitting especially hard for fans of Japanese role-playing games. The outgoing wave features a number of critically acclaimed titles from Atlus, making it one of the more notable catalog rotations the service has had in recent months. Players who have not started these games yet have until the end of May to jump in before they get removed.

Persona 4 Golden and Metaphor: ReFantazio are on their way out
Persona 4 Golden is the most exciting of the departing titles. The award-winning JRPG's enhanced edition returned to Xbox Game Pass in August 2025, its second time on the service after a stint from January 2023 to January 2024. This time, it's leaving after just nine months, far from a full year. Joining it on the way out is Metaphor: ReFantazio, another Atlus title and one of the most highly-rated games of 2024.

The Persona-like social mechanics fantasy JRPG joined the service in May 2025 and will be leaving exactly one year later. Also confirmed to leave on May 31 is Spray Paint Simulator, which launched on the service on the same day as Metaphor: ReFantazio. Rounding out the removal list are Crypt Custodian, a colorful afterlife metroidvania heading out the door just three days shy of its first anniversary on the service, and Against the Storm, a dark fantasy city builder that will exit after almost two and a half years.

For achievement hunters, the easiest titles to finish before the deadline are Spray Paint Simulator and Crypt Custodian, both of which can be completed easily in the time left. The other games on the list will take much more time to finish, so it's unlikely you'll be able to get a full playthrough or completionist run done before May 31.

New Persona Experience Still Coming, Plus New Additions. Persona 4 Golden fans losing access do have something to look forward to, as Persona 4 Revival has already been confirmed as a day-one Xbox Game Pass release. The remake was first revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2025, and with another showcase set for June 7, 2026, a release date or a concrete launch window could be announced soon.

On the additions side, Escape Simulator joins the catalog on May 26, followed by Echo Generation 2 and The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition on May 27. The month ends with two day-one releases on May 28, bug-collecting game Kabuto Park and party driving title Crashout Crew, giving subscribers some fresh content to explore even as the May departures take effect.
