Gameplay and Additional Features
Saros builds on the excellent systems of Returnal, including fast-paced movement, futuristic weapons, vast combat arenas, a shower of bullets, and other projectiles. The game stars Rahul Kohli (of Midnight Mass and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun) as Arjun Devraj, a Soltari enforcer on the mysterious planet of Carcosa.

The game includes many new features, including the Soltari Shield, which is a holding action of R1 to charge an energy bubble that protects Arjun. The shield absorbs enemy projectiles and converts them into weapon energy, which can be unleashed when L2 is fully pressed down. A Second Chance mechanic is also included in the game, reviving Arjun if he takes fatal damage. This feature falls into Saros' permanent progression system and can be unlocked later in the game. Players will also upgrade Arjun's Soltari combat suit and abilities to help with progression.

Release Date and Future Details
Housemarque has confirmed that Saros will be releasing exclusively on PS5 on March 20, 2026. State of Play in September 2025 included five minutes of in-engine gameplay and noted that "storytelling will be more prominent in Saros," and includes NPCs, avatars, or other records to explore the history and mysteries of the planet of Carcosa. As Saros will be the first major PlayStation exclusive in 2026, more news and information are expected soon, with a potential exclusive State of Play in the coming months.
