Nintendo Announces New Restaurant Opening at Museum in 2026

Nintendo has announced its plans for a brand new restaurant that will open at the Nintendo Museum in Uji, Japan, with an opening date set for autumn 2026. The new dining venue will be themed and decorated after classic Nintendo franchises such as The Legend of Zelda and Metroid, giving fans yet another reason to visit the museum aside from its existing interactive exhibits and current cafe offering.

Details for Super Family Restaurant
The new restaurant is called Super Family Restaurant, a reference to the original Japanese name of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Family Computer, or Super Famicom. Nintendo has now revealed the name, logo and a handful of interior images ahead of the opening. Much of the space seems to be laid out like a typical sit-down restaurant, but there are several noticeable Nintendo-themed elements, such as a bust of Samus's Power Suit from the Metroid series, a replica of the Master Sword, and what seems to be a life-sized statue of Link from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The official Nintendo Museum account has confirmed that the restaurant will have a range of menus for both food and desserts but the full menu has not been released yet.

Dining at the Museum
Fans who visit the Nintendo Museum before the opening of the Super Family Restaurant will not go hungry. The museum's current Hatena Burger cafe still offers Nintendo-themed cuisine and decor, especially from the Mario franchise, but also touches of Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda. There's been no announcement of Hatena Burger closing, so it looks like the two restaurants will co-exist when the Super Family Restaurant opens.

About Nintendo Museum
The Nintendo Museum was initially announced in 2021, and was opened to the public in 2024. The venue will feature interactive experiences, workshops and a deep dive into Nintendo's history, including the time before the company entered the video game industry. The plant is located on the same site as a former Nintendo factory where the company used to produce playing cards and handle product repairs, a significant site in the broader history of the organization.

Nintendo Themed Dining Outside Japan
If you can't make it to Japan, you can still get a Nintendo-themed dining experience in the US, with Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Epic Universe in Orlando. Visitors to these parks can also eat themed food and snacks at the Toadstool Cafe or Power Up Cafe in addition to attractions based on the Super Mario Bros. franchise. Super Nintendo World is also at Universal Studios Japan, for visitors already in the country who may not make the trip to Uji.

A Part of a Larger Nintendo Food Tradition
The Super Family Restaurant is the latest in a fast growing tradition of Nintendo themed dining experiences. Other examples include the Kirby-themed cafe that has been set up in Japan several times, and the Hatena Burger cafe that is already in operation at the Nintendo Museum itself. "The continued growth of this type of offering is a testament to the continued appetite among fans for immersive, brand aligned experiences that go beyond gaming into food and hospitality.
