For those unfamiliar, Bully follows 15-year-old troublemaker Jimmy Hopkins as he navigates life at Bullworth Academy, encountering a colorful cast of characters while completing GTA-style missions with a schoolyard twist, all while occasionally attending class. Like most Rockstar titles, Bully earned strong critical praise and remains fondly remembered as one of the standout games of the PS2 era. The game later received remastered versions for mobile devices, Wii, and Xbox 360, and was eventually re-released on PS4 complete with trophy support. Despite its commercial success and positive reception, Rockstar has never officially moved forward with a true sequel.
Agefield High Aims to Fill the Bully-Shaped Gap
No official Bully 2 has ever been confirmed by Rockstar Games, and although leaks over the years have hinted that such a project may have been considered at some point, an actual sequel still doesn't appear to be on the horizon anytime soon. Stepping in to fill that gap is Agefield High: Rock the School, a new title that, while unlikely to match the quality fans would expect from a genuine Bully sequel, is clearly aiming to deliver a similar experience.
Agefield High: Rock the School is set during high school life in the early 2000s. Players control a new student named Sam as he tackles a variety of missions in a style reminiscent of Bully, while also having the freedom to explore the game's open world. Much like Bully, the game features several classes players can attend, along with the option to skip them entirely. Managing time effectively becomes important for players who don't want to miss class, mirroring another core mechanic borrowed directly from Rockstar's original title.
Mixed Reception Follows the Game's PC Launch
While Agefield High: Rock the School is clearly aiming to be a spiritual successor to Bully, early impressions suggest it isn't quite living up to that comparison in terms of overall quality. The game is arriving on PS5 September 25, but it initially launched on PC back in August. The game received a mostly negative initial reception from Steam players, with an overall "Mostly Negative" rating. More recent reviews have been more positive, however, with the game now sitting at a "Mixed" rating overall, suggesting that updates after launch have helped address some of the game's early problems.
Unfortunately, games that are truly comparable to Bully have been somewhat scarce over the years, meaning Agefield High: Rock the School is one of the few options available to players looking for something similar. It's unclear if the PS5 version, which arrives September 25, will be a significant upgrade over the original PC release, but we won't have to wait too long to find out.
