What is No Rest for the Wicked? For those who may not know, No Rest for the Wicked is an isometric action RPG from Moon Studios that features souls-like combat. Moon Studios is a team that has released two critically acclaimed Metroidvanian games: Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. The game launched for early access on Steam on April 18, 2024, with a strong focus on handcrafted worlds, an oil painting aesthetic, and extremely fun and satisfying combat mechanics that have helped grow a strong community of gamers who have been instrumental in shaping the continued development of the game.
The Second Year Anniversary Post to Fans.
In order to celebrate two years since the launch of the game, Moon Studios provided an anniversary message through Steam. The video game company was thankful for the early access players and said their input helped shape the development of the first big game update and each of the updates after. Their thanks were coupled with how hard the team is working on making version 1.0 of their game happen. No dates were mentioned in the announcement, but it did indicate they are making progress behind closed doors.
Console players have also been told they still plan on making versions for consoles, but they could not give a time frame as to when the "No Rest For The Wicked" would come to consoles. They said that console versions have always been a part of their long-term plans, but the delay has been longer than they thought it would be.
The fans on either PlayStation or Xbox will have to wait until there is a set date for them to know when they can. Moon Studios has developed a clear strategy regarding its approach to releasing its titles on consoles. In the past, Mahler, founder of Moon Studios, has stated that the first step in the console release process will be to complete the final version of the game on PC (approximately 1.0) before any attempt to seek console certification from the respective manufacturers, such as Microsoft and Sony.
This is due to the much more stringent certification processes required by these manufacturers as opposed to the relatively lenient processes for submitting to Early Access through Valve. Therefore, by attempting to obtain console certifications prior to completing the final build of a game, an extra layer of complication will be added to that game's eventual public release on the console platform.
In January 2026, the implementation of "together," an important co-op update for Steam players, was a major step towards console readiness, according to Mahler. Mahler said the co-op game was one of the primary criteria for determining whether the game would be ready to launch on a console. This milestone had already been achieved, as No Rest for the Wicked is listed on the PlayStation store, although it does not yet have an official content rating or pre-order option.
Sales Milestone: 1.7 Million Copies Sold
The company's second-anniversary update included a positive commercial update: No Rest for the Wicked has sold 1.7 million copies, an impressive turnaround for a title that was in trouble in May 2025. No Rest for the Wicked had received numerous negative Steam reviews, causing problems for the developers at Moon Studios and bringing the company to what Mahler described as the brink of closure due to the overwhelming negativity.
The situation has changed dramatically since then. As of April 2026, No Rest for the Wicked had a very positive rating on Steam from over 25,300 users. Solitary sales have also accelerated substantially recently; it took 20 months for No Rest for the Wicked to sell the first 1 million copies at an average of 50,000 copies per month, whereas it took just the next four months to sell the last 700,000 copies, representing an increase of 250% in No Rest for the Wicked's selling rate per month since early 2026.
What's Next for Moon Studios?
The overall message of Moon Studios' second-anniversary update is that, despite being faced with adversity, Moon Studios is now stronger and growing. With sales trending up, the sentiment of players rating No Rest for the Wicked positive, the co-op update launched, and the 1.0 build of the game in development, Moon Studios feels confident that their momentum of sales and quality will continue, and they will be able to provide console players with the date when they can purchase the completed and polished version of No Rest for the Wicked on all platforms.
