A member of the EA Community Team also confirmed there will be updates about the Sims 4 early next year, along with brand new information provided by leaks indicating there may be an expansion pack that represents the final major downloadable content release for EA’s newest game, The Sims 4.

Speculation and Community Reaction to Recent Leaks and Rumors Regarding The Sims 4
On December 23rd, 2022, rumors were escalated after X’s user account (@phii_oda) leaked some information about a possible new expansion pack for The Sims 4, stating that the expansion pack would include a “Royalty” theme and three different “Kingdom” types, including one that was said to be based on Africa.

The leaked information also speculated that this could be the last major DLC released for the Sims 4 and that there would only be smaller updates and Kit packs released after.

The information spread rapidly on fan websites as well as in the Sims 4 Subreddits. Within hours of the leak, an official EA Community representative (Mindy_SimsCommunity) commented that there was a lot of misinformation and that the community could expect verified announcements from EA soon.

The comment was vague in terms of what parts of the leak were considered fraudulent, leaving the community to speculate until they can receive confirmation.

In addition to the recent leaks, many older rumors and reports have only compounded the rumors and misinformation regarding the Sims franchise. Specifically, one of the older rumors indicated that the single-player (original) component of Project Rene and/or Project X may or may not get a separate release late in the year 2026 and may be branded as The Sims 5 — despite being a lesser version of what the community expects.

Some have also suggested that there may be some form of remastered Sims 4 that will be released in the future, but many content creators and fans don’t believe that it would be viable.

What is Next for the Sims franchise?
Despite all of the rumors and misinformed reports, EA seems ready to announce their plans for the Sims franchise within the next few months. Historically, EA has kept the community up to date on new product releases by way of their “Behind The Sims” streams, showcasing what is to come to the franchise as well as future plans.

The October 2022 summit provided the community with the very first presentation regarding Project Rene, which has been described as the Sims franchise's next-generation interactive experience and creative platform for content creators.

EA is actively developing numerous upcoming projects, including mobile Games, The Sims Hub, and various products associated with Project Rene, and by some estimates, January 2026 may be the start of EA actually clearing up the speculation regarding future expansion packs and sequels to The Sims 4 and continuing ongoing support for The Sims 4. Until an official announcement is made by EA, everything is still mere speculation, so EA advises everyone to wait until an official announcement is released for confirmations.
