It's also worth noting that the game falls squarely into the open-world survival-crafting genre, a category that continues to show staying power in the gaming world, unlike some trends that fade quickly. Given how popular the genre remains, Steam players may want to keep this one on their radar, especially since it also supports co-op play with friends.
Delverium Launches Into Early Access on September 22
Delverium is set to enter Steam Early Access on September 22, offering an open-world survival crafting experience built around procedurally generated worlds. Players will be able to gather resources, construct shelters, tend to crops, explore diverse biomes, and battle through dangerous dungeons. In many ways, it captures the relaxed, life-sim rhythm of Stardew Valley while layering in the unpredictable, freshly generated world design fans associate with Minecraft. Beyond farming and building, players can recruit NPCs for trading, craft a wide range of items from food and tools to weapons and armor, and gradually develop their own settlements as they progress.
Farming plays a significant role in the Delverium experience, though the game doesn't lean entirely into the cozy genre label. Players can till soil, plant and water crops, raise animals, fish, and gather ingredients scattered throughout the world. These resources then feed into a cooking system, giving players another practical use for everything they collect during their adventures.
A Deeper Mystery Awaits Beneath the Surface
Beyond its farming and crafting systems, Delverium features a larger overarching mystery. A dangerous corrupting force known as the Faults is spreading across the land, and players must track down scattered lore fragments while confronting these threats to piece together what's really happening. How deeply players choose to engage with this storyline is entirely optional, since the game is designed to accommodate a wide range of playstyles. Delverium can be played solo, with up to four players through local split-screen co-op, or with as many as eight players online.
The game's world is procedurally generated, meaning no two playthroughs will look the same, with each new world offering unique biomes, hidden caves, and dungeons to discover. Visually, Delverium uses colorful 2D pixel art, paired with a soundtrack composed by BAFTA Award-winning composer and audio director Jeff van Dyck, known for his work on titles like Unpacking, Forts, and Paint the Town Red.
With its blend of farming, settlement building, crafting, exploration, and dungeon delving, Delverium looks poised to appeal to fans hoping for a mix of Stardew Valley's laid-back pace and Minecraft's open-ended sandbox freedom.
