Typically, upcoming Free to Keep titles are visible in advance through tracking sites like SteamDB, though not every giveaway gets announced ahead of time. A recent example was the Crystal Crisis giveaway, which appeared overnight and became fully free without any prior notice.
Dying Light: The Beast DLC Set for a Free Giveaway
According to SteamDB's list of upcoming Free to Keep promotions, the Discharge Weapon Pack for Dying Light: The Beast is set to be given away completely free sometime this September. Details remain limited, but the listing confirms the pack, normally priced at $4.99, will become free to claim at some point during the month. The pack itself includes the Discharge Machete weapon along with the VNC Weapon Charm. It's a modest addition, but a welcome one considering the price tag drops to zero.
Beyond this DLC pack, SteamDB has also revealed three more freebies lined up for the following month. These include a liveries pack for MXGP 26, a signature pack for Gear.Club Unlimited 3, and a classic hunter pack for Hunting Simulator 3.
A Shift From Full Games to DLC Packs
Free to Keep giveaways tend to be full games, not small add-ons, so it's a bit strange to see several DLC packs packaged together in such a short time. It's not clear if this is a broader shift in how the promotion will do business for now.
Also it is worth keeping in mind that not planned giveaway goes live. Sometimes developers will put up a listing for a promotion that ends up falling through, and the listing will quietly disappear from tracking sites with no explanation. Not too often, but a good reminder that plans can change unexpectedly, even after they have been publicly listed.
Dying Light: The Beast is the third entry in the long-running zombie horror franchise. The game has been well received since its release last year, but it was originally developed as downloadable content for its predecessor before becoming a standalone game. The game also features Kyle Crane, the original protagonist from the very first entry in the series, making this upcoming freebie a fitting excuse to jump back into the action.
